On Wednesday the WORKS for the total replacement of the pedestrian promenade that borders the Poniente beach in Benidorm began at a cost of 1.6 million euros.
Benidorm mayor Toni Pérez said: “The walkway is in very poor condition and has endured many pedestrians who are now upset about its condition.”

The 5,400 m2 project on the kilometer and a half of the road will be financed by the Benidorm City Council.
It should be finished in June in time for the summer season.
The current wooden surface has rotted over the years and has also taken a beating, making it difficult for wheelchair users and people pushing baby carriages.
It will be replaced by a synthetic wood-like material that offers better resistance to different extreme weather conditions and can be lifted for cleaning or replacement if necessary.
The first phase consists of dismantling the walkway and taking the wood for recycling in the eco-park, followed by the placement of the most resistant wood.
“This will improve the image of an area that for us is very symbolic,” said Toni Pérez.
