The number of PASSENGERS at the Alicante-Elche and Valencia airports registered a second consecutive record month, according to the February figures published this Monday by the airport operator Aena.

The Alicante-Elche total of 790,766 was the highest number for February since the airport opened in 1967, and 1% more than the previous record set in 2019.

The percentage increase at Valencia’s Manises airport was even higher – a 6% rise on its 2019 record figure – with a total of 555,683 travelers.

After two record-breaking months, the signs bode well for the rest of the year, as the travel market in Spain continues to make a strong recovery after the Covid pandemic.

International travelers from Alicante-Elche returned to 99% of 2019 levels and domestic passengers increased by 12.8% in four years.

Valencia reported an international increase of 2%, with an increase of 16.9% in domestic services.

Compared to a year earlier, the total for Alicante-Elche increased by 35.5% with an increase of 41.9% in Valencia.

Passengers from the United Kingdom once again dominated Alicante-Elche with 267,268 out of a total of 790,766, followed at a great distance by Dutch arrivals with 70,452.

A country that continues to grow is Poland, sixth in the list of international arrivals with 26,908 travelers.

As for Valencia, the largest foreign group came from Italy with 87,054, followed by the United Kingdom with 50,376.
