dusseldorf These are stressful days for the approximately 250 works council members at the Volkswagen Group. The reason is a decision of the Federal Court of Justice (BGH) in mid-January. This is likely to result in severe pay cuts for numerous worker representatives.

According to information from Handelsblatt, in recent days some 170 members of the works council have attended vw to write. Anyone who has already received a written note can normally breathe a sigh of relief. Nothing changes for him or her as a result of BGH’s decision. However, all other worker representatives must take wage losses into account.

According to the group’s experts, various scenarios of possible salary cuts are currently being developed. As it is, the cuts in around 20 of the affected works councils are said to be serious. They are threatened with the loss of about half of their previous salary. In individual cases, these are monthly sums of around 4000 euros. The cuts could take effect at the end of February. The Handelsblatt learned this from circles familiar with the process.
