The Town Hall of Cumbres de Enmedio in Andalusia, with 50 inhabitants, wants to rent the only bar in town for €20 per month.

The municipality of Huelva is the smallest town in Andalusia, the one with the fewest inhabitants and with its own town hall.

City council workers went to the municipality twice a week during the Covid-19 pandemic with the neighbors’ shopping lists, so they did not have to leave the house.

The community is united and the spirit is stronger.

And now the town is inviting someone to run its only bar for just 20 euros a month.

The City Council will cover the costs of water and electricity up to a maximum of 150 euros per invoice.

But whoever buys the bar must be legally registered as self-employed, and pay the council fee of 20 euros per month.

The mayor of the town, Reyes Páez, said that the bar is an “essential” resource to give life to the town, not only in its day-to-day life for the residents, but also taking into account its location at the foot of the road.

“If it is possible to open and, incidentally, it is possible that there are companies that settle in the mixed industrial estate of the region, giant steps will have been taken to avoid depopulation in this corner of the Huelva mountains,” he said. .
