REY FELIPE has called for ‘greater visibility’ for young Spanish scientists with better support to develop their potential at home rather than abroad.

The monarch, accompanied by his wife, Queen Letizia, spoke this Wednesday at the National Research Awards held at the Casa Mediterráneo in Alicante.

The awards were announced for the first time in 1982 and are the most important in Spain in the field of scientific research.

It is the first time that the ceremony has taken place in Alicante, after last year it traveled to Barcelona for the first time, always having its base in Madrid since its inception.

The prizes worth €30,000 were awarded by the Kings to ten researchers aged 40 or under, and ten more to people aged 40.

“Spain has magnificent potential and an enormous talent pool of science professionals in very different areas with absolutely fundamental research,” said King Felipe.

He emphasized that there is “a lot” of young talent in the country.
