The CSIF union has called for “immediate” action to reduce the pressure on hospital emergency units in the Valencian Community.

The union says that an “extreme situation” was reached on Monday at the Hospital de la Ribera de Alzira with 49 patients waiting for beds before they could be admitted.

A CSIF statement said the “lack of basic resources is exacerbating the burden of care.”

They claimed the additional facilities were not activated until 2:30pm on Sunday, when 31 patients were waiting to be admitted and then only an additional nurse and assistant were provided.

The emergency room waiting list rose to 49 on Monday and the CSIF said the hospital was “experiencing chaos”.

He also complained that hospital staff were unable to get food from the cafeteria on Sunday after it closed early at 2:55 p.m.

The union added that there are problems at other local hospitals, including 40 people waiting to be treated in the emergency room at the Hospital Clínico de Valencia on Monday at lunchtime.

The average waiting time according to the CSIF was 40 hours.

He said that the city’s La Fe Hospital reported 15 people waiting for a free bed.
