It took him two months, but Gerard Piqué has finally broken his silence about the ‘revenge song’ that his ex-partner, Shakira, dedicated to him.
Speaking on Catalan radio station Rac1 on Tuesday, the former FC Barcelona and Spain player still kept his cards close to his chest over Session 53which was released by the Colombian superstar and Argentine producer Bizarrap.
“Obviously I’ve heard it, but I don’t want to talk about it because it’s not appropriate,” he said during the interview about the song.
However, he went further by questioning his ex’s behavior and how it could affect his children, Milan (10) and Sasha (eight).
“We have a responsibility as people, especially those of us who are parents, to try to protect our children,” he said. ‘I don’t want to say anything on the subject, everyone can make the decisions they think are right, and I don’t feel like talking more about it. I believe that the only thing that matters is that my children are well,’ he concluded.
The launch of Session 53 It caused a stir around the world, thanks to Shakira taking aim not only at Piqué but also at his new girlfriend, Clara Chia, who is rumored to have started dating while the couple was still together.
The lines ‘You traded a Ferrari for a Twingo / You traded a Rolex for a Casio’ caused quite a stir, but Piqué seemed to take the taunts with good humour. Days later he showed up to a soccer game driving a Twingo.
At the end of February, Shakira released another ‘diss song’, along with her compatriot Karol G, in which her lyrics once again seem to reference both Piqué and Chia.
Last week saw the Colombian superstar perform Session 53 live for the first time The Jimmy Fallon Show in the U.S. Eagle-eyed viewers saw their children, Milan and Sasha, dance along with the performance to one side of the audience area.
Shakira and Piqué announced their separation in June of last year, and when the custody agreement for their two children was announced in November, that was the definitive end of their 12-year relationship.
Shakira will move from Barcelona to Miami with her children, while Piqué has been granted generous visitation rights. The step has been delayed, however, due to the delicate health of her father, who has been hospitalized in Spain for several months.
