Andalusia has registered its first case of the ‘kraken’ variant of the Covid-19 coronavirus that is sweeping the United States.

The announcement was made by Catalina García, the Minister of Health and Families, who declined to give more details about the status and whereabouts of the infected patient.

However, the minister has sent a message of calm to the residents of Andalusia, stating that information from the US indicates that the Kraken “is not more virulent” than other variants, although it is “more contagious.”

No action is expected to be taken regarding the arrival of Kraken on the Spanish coast, although the debate on the requirement of masks on public transport continues.

Meanwhile, demands have been made that the Health Ministry put all arrivals from China through Covid tests rather than just a random selection.
