A gang of Albanian drug traffickers who grew marijuana on farms on the Costa Blanca and Murcia has been arrested by the Civil Guard.

The group committed similar crimes in Germany, Greece and Italy, before arriving in Spain.

All the rental houses used in El Campello, Molina de Segura and Lorquí were equipped with the latest technology to remotely control the light and temperature of the crops.

The investment in high technology meant that the neighbors were not suspicious of the frequent comings and goings of the properties.

Another preventative measure was the use of sophisticated LED lights that substantially reduced electricity consumption, another traditional red flag for authorities that marijuana may be growing.

Five men and one woman – all of Albanian nationality – have been arrested, and the Alicante investigative court imprisons all the men.

In five raids, marijuana plants weighing 180 kilos, 51 kilos of marijuana buds and 6,700 euros in cash were seized, in addition to various telephones and false identity documents used by gang members.
