The Costa del Sol can welcome more than half a million tourists every day, according to new figures.
The province of Malaga alone has a staggering 514,838 beds available for tourists and can accommodate more than half a million for the first time, figures from the Andalusian Tourism Registry show.
The huge numbers come even despite the worst period in history for tourism on the Costa del Sol during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In February of last year, the Coast reached the historic figure of 450,000 beds available for visitors, due to the 50,000 more that were added during the two years of the pandemic.
That figure was also boosted by a major increase in private properties used for vacation rentals after new rules were introduced to officially register them for the first time in 2016.
The president of the Association of Tourist Properties of Andalusia, Carlos Pérez-Lanzac, said that some of the accommodations that had been withdrawn from the holiday rental market in 2020 are now available again.
He also said that new apartment blocks specifically for holiday rentals are being built, and today there is a noticeable trend to attract the type of traveler who has high purchasing power.
