Spanish LaLiga football club fires manager seven months in charge

Gennaro Gattuso has been fired from Valencia CF of the Spanish LaLiga after just seven months at the helm of Mestalla.

Spanish LaLiga club Valencia CF parted ways today, Monday, January 30, with their 45-year-old Italian coach, Gennaro Gattuso. The former forced midfielder had only been in the mestalla stadium for seven months. They currently languish in 14th place in the table.

“Valencia CF announces that this Monday, January 30, the club and the first team coach, Gennaro Gattuso, have decided by mutual agreement to end the contractual relationship that linked the Italian coach with the VCF,” it reads. statement issued by the club tonight.

He continued: “The Club wants to thank the coach for his commitment and work in these months in charge of the first team and wish him the best of luck in his future. The team will return to training this Tuesday, January 31 under the command of ‘Voro’ González”.

Since he took over last June, the Spanish giants have only won five of their 18 games under Gattuso. A 1-0 loss at home to Real Valladolid last night was clearly the final straw for the club’s hierarchy.

As announced, Voro González will take over while Valencia searches for a new manager. This will be the eighth time that he has taken temporary command of the team during his time at Mestalla. His current stage could not start with anything worse than an away game at Real Madrid’s Bernebau next Thursday.
