TORREVIEJA and Orihuela are the main areas in the province of Alicante for foreign home buyers according to the College of Notaries of the Valencian Community.
Figures for the first nine months of 2022 show that the two municipalities accounted for more than a third of all foreign housing transactions in the province.
Torrevieja registered 4,854 sales abroad between January and September, 96% more than in the same period of 2021, when the pandemic severely depressed the market.
Crucially, the total was 57% more than in the year before the 2019 pandemic.
The largest group of foreign buyers came from Sweden (787), followed by Germany (484).
Orihuela reflected the great rise of Torrevieja, 85% more than in 2021, and a 53% increase in foreign sales in 2019.
Unlike its neighboring municipality, British buyers dominated with 823, followed by Belgians with 504.
The city of Alicante was the third largest in the region with 2,231 home sales abroad led by Algerian, Russian and Ukrainian buyers.
Calpe was in fourth place on the list (804) followed by Santa Pola (766), Jávea (748), Denia (719) and Benidorm (585).
The College of Notaries said that foreign buyers were concentrated to a large extent in the coastal areas of the province of Alicante and that has resulted in a real estate boom in some municipalities, but quiet trade in the interior.
