Estate agent Alby Euesden is originally from the UK but has lived in Mallorca for the last 24 years and has now taken on a new role to help attract others to the Balearic island.
Appointed new managing partner of The Agency, a new real estate office in Mallorca, the olive press he sat down with Euesden and asked him why he thinks the island is a paradise.
What is the attraction of living in Mallorca?
I moved to Mallorca at the age of four and have lived here for 24 years, so I have seen the island evolve in that time. It’s not the same island I moved to. The education level of international students has increased dramatically and is a very important factor for foreign buyers.
The quality of gastronomy has also increased substantially. The number of Michelin-starred restaurants on the island increases every year.
Infrastructure is also another important factor. Mallorca has excellent roads, connections and our clients frequently travel to and from the mainland.
The quality of life and every aspect of Spain’s rich culture are just other reasons why Mallorca is a great place to live.

What is your favorite part of the island?
Palma and southwest, it is so connected and international. The coastline is beautiful and the overall lifestyle is ideal close to beaches, golf and great restaurants.
What’s a secret place for some peace and quiet?
In fact I love to sit alone at Cappuccino in Port Portals and watch the world go by, however the sauna for me is peace and quiet.
Where is the best place to eat?
The Notary.
What is the most interesting building or historical fact?
The Cathedral has to be the most historic building.
Where do you like to go on vacation to get away?
Mallorca is very connected so I take advantage of the excellent connections with the rest of Europe.
Where you live? Is married?
Center of Palma, near the lively Santa Catalina and within walking distance of the Port of Palma and the Paseo Marítimo. I’m single.
How did you come to accept the role of Managing Partner of The Agency’s new office in Mallorca?
While I was away from home in June of last year, I kept picking up on the American accent more and more. I was hearing it more in cafes and on the streets, so I contacted The Agency founder Mauricio Umansky directly to ask him about the potential of being a collaborating partner. He literally came back to me in three or four minutes and said, “It’s creepy that you contacted us because we’ve been thinking about expanding into Europe and Spain,” so we set up a Zoom meeting and talked about it.
Why do you think more Americans visit and buy property in Mallorca?
I started noticing an increase in purchases in the early summer of last year. The direct flight between New York and Majorca just started last year and that has attracted many Americans. It is also coupled with this fascination that Americans have with Europe and its rich history and culture.
The largest flight connections to and from Mallorca have made the island a gateway to the rest of Europe. From Mallorca you can fly to almost anywhere in Europe.
The Balearic Islands are also having a lot of exposure in the United States, they are marketing fantastically well.
