Polish tennis player Magda Linette continued her winning streak at the Australian Open, reaching the semifinals. The 30-year-old prevailed in her quarterfinal match against the disappointing Czech Karolina Pliskova 6:3, 7:5 and celebrated the biggest Grand Slam success of her career. “A dream come true, I’m just happy,” said the deserved winner afterwards:

Melbourne – “I’ll never forget it. That stays for life.”

In the fight for the final ticket, Linette meets the winner of the duel between the Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka and the Croatian Donna Vekic, who later met at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne.

Linette is the third Polish woman to reach the semifinals of the Australian Open in the professional era. Her compatriot Iga Swiatek, who traveled to Down Under as world number one as the favorite of the tournament, is eliminated from the round of 16. dpa
