Due to arms deliveries to Ukraine, there are gaps in equipment in the Bundeswehr. Defense Minister Boris Pistorius wants to take countermeasures quickly.
Berlin – Defense Minister Boris Pistorius wants to talk quickly with the arms industry about closing the equipment gaps in the Bundeswehr caused by arms deliveries to Ukraine. “Now we are doing everything we can to ensure that things get back on track quickly,” said the SPD politician in the ARD “Tagesthemen”. He wants to have talks with the arms industry very soon, probably next week.
Pistorius admitted: “Over the past few years, we have run up a lot of parts procurement shortfalls.” There were also gaps due to the sale of weapons during the Ukrainian war. What matters now are reliable and binding agreements with the industry. “Because one thing is clear: the gaps that are now emerging must and must be closed quickly.” Pistorius also advocated strengthening the industry. “We need more of the arms industry in Germany, but I think also in concert in Europe,” the minister said. dpa
