Werder Bremen coach Ole Werner expects Amos Pieper to play the away game at 1. FC Köln. The defender has only trained individually, but should be available on Saturday night (18:30 / Sky).
Bremen – “Everything is fine with Amos. Tomorrow he will train with the team again,” Werner said.
Pieper (25) has recently been struggling with ankle problems. Werner left it open whether new signing Arminia Bielefeld will play in Cologne from the start. Another candidate for the bottom three spot alongside Marco Friedl and Milos Veljkovic is Niklas Stark.
All in all, Werner sees his team well prepared for the restart after the long World Cup break. “In general, I am satisfied with how the break went,” said the Werder coach. “The expectation is great. It’s time to finally start again,” said Werner. Bremen enters the second part of the Bundesliga season in ninth place and currently has four points more than 13th-place 1. FC Köln. Werner has to do without the two injured Felix Agu and Romano Schmid dpa
