DENIA will get a sports hall with 2,500 seats for 11.4 million euros to be built next to the municipal athletics track.
The pavilion would be capable of hosting sporting and non-sporting events, and will house a central multi-sports field.
Basketball, futsal, handball and rhythmic gymnastics will be some of the sports that will be practiced in the building that will occupy 3,800 m2.
The council has announced a tender of 309,000 euros to draft the project over six months, to be followed by a process to find a builder who is expected to complete the work in 20 months.
The mayor of Denia, Vicent Grimalt, said: “The new pavilion will be part of the urban transformation of the city and responds to the demands of sports clubs to obtain the facilities they need.”
Changing rooms, toilets, meeting rooms, offices and a climbing area will form part of the new facility, which will also include the construction of new outdoor courts and a car park.
Whoever wins the construction contract will have to show that they will maximize energy efficiency in the building, which could be completed by the end of 2025.
