A NEW project to create a directory of authors in Gibraltar will showcase the best writing talent the Rock has to offer.

The Ministry of Culture set up the Gibraltar National Book Council (GNBC) earlier this month to promote local literature.

The Authors Directory is one of several initiatives and projects to support Rock authors in their search for international recognition.

At a meeting on Tuesday, GNBC acquired its logo and made its first moves.

For this reason, it called on Gibraltarian authors to provide a biography of no more than 200 words and a photograph.

After standardizing the biographies, they will be placed on the new GNBC website launching later this year.

Plans are underway to host a networking event for authors.

It will allow them to brainstorm and provide feedback while reading some of their favorite books.

The members of the Book Council hope to offer writing workshops in the future.

They will seek to encourage authors to convey Gibraltar’s identity and cultural heritage in their stories.

GNBC bosses also hope to promote research on the Llanito language and even publish a collection of ‘Novels’ by local authors.
