The second smallest town in Andalusia received more than 100 applications to open the only bar in town. This followed the City Council’s call for hopeful businessmen to spearhead the establishment for just €20 a month in an attempt to prevent further population loss.

The town hall of Cumbres de Enmedio, which has a population of 59, was inundated with responses to its ad that included interest from as far away as Croatia.

To encourage future bar owners, the council will cover electricity and water costs up to a maximum of €150 per bill. The place is already adapted to current regulations and has all the necessary equipment, including a full kitchen, dining area and television.

The bar is situated on one of the town’s three streets, Avenida de Andalucía, and has been closed for several years, leaving the 50 or so inhabitants without a social watering hole for a while.
