A mass shooting at a Martin Luther King Day event in Fort Pierce, Florida has left at least eight people injured.

It is reported that at least eight people were injured in a mass shooting that occurred today, Monday, January 16, in the city of Fort Pierce, Florida. The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office confirmed on its official Facebook page that it had officers on the scene near Ave. M and 13th Street.

According to online reports, large crowds had gathered for a Martin Luther King Day celebration event. It is believed that they were viewing a car show that was taking place at a local park, believed to be the Louis Ellis Park. Local media said one of those shot was in critical condition.

Unverified video footage uploaded to social media showed people running from the scene while gunshots could be heard in the background. Law enforcement agencies responded to reports of shooting and the sheriff’s office is said to be working on leads to apprehend the perpetrators who are still at large.
