ONE of the most important fairs in Spain, the ram fair, returns to Mallorca this Friday and will last until April 16.

Son Fusteret in Palma will once again host the attractions that are expected to attract around 200,000 visitors over the next few weeks.

It is ranked as the third largest fair in the country behind Seville and Valencia, and has two new attractions this year.

The Rocket is not for the faint-hearted, as you’re suspended in the air by a harness attached to a 200-foot-tall tower.

A softer ride is Magic Cut, where you have to cut a rope to win a giant stuffed animal.

This year the fair will have 170 stands, attractions and bars, with 70% of exhibitors coming from the Peninsula.

An advantage this year is that for three days, yet to be announced, the sounds of the attractions will be muted so that people with autism can enjoy the fair.

The increasing cost of transporting everything to Son Fusteret together with general inflation means that prices have had to rise.

The spokesman for the fair association, Bernardi Bisquerra, said: “Ambulances, security, insurance, electricity and other expenses have risen by more than 30%.”

Opening hours from Monday to Thursday will be from 4:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., with an extra 90 minutes on Fridays.

Saturday and Sunday the opening will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m.
