The first public and mixed spa in MÁLAGA, El Balneario Nuestra Señora del Carmen, hopes to soon enjoy the status of Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC).

The Baños del Carmen Spa opened its doors for the first time on July 16, 1918 and became a great success.

Baños del Carmen had a tram service and gradually expanded its offer with a pier, a restaurant, an open-air cinema and the first tennis courts in Malaga.

In 1922, the first soccer field in Malaga was inaugurated in El Balneario, as well as a 2,000-meter dance floor, and from the 1920s to the 1960s it was the largest party center in the city, quite an innovation at the time.

Now, after decades of decline, El Balneario seeks to return to its former splendor and a benchmark for entertainment by the sea.

The status of Asset of Cultural Interest will provide the area with special protection and, in addition, will reinforce its esteem among residents and visitors.

This Monday the Official Gazette of the Junta de Andalucía (BOJA) published the resolution by which the procedure for the inscription of the emblematic spa in the General Catalog of the Historical Heritage of Andalusia as an Asset of Cultural Interest begins, with the typology Site of Ethnological Interest. Interest.

This inscription is, according to the regional delegate for Tourism, Culture and Sport, Gemma del Corral, the “main necessary step” for the formalization of Los Baños del Carmen, as an Asset of Cultural Interest.
