Hungary has secured the last ticket for the quarterfinals of the Handball World Cup. The Magyars won their last main round match against Cape Verde in Gothenburg 42:30 (22:15) and secured second place in Group 2 with 6:4 points.

Katowice – In the case of the tie on points with Iceland, which reached 41:37 (18:22) against Brazil, the direct comparison won decidedly in favor of Hungary. Portugal lost against European champions and co-hosts Sweden at 30:32 (14:13) and fell behind their rivals by 5:5 points.

Previously, Germany, defending champion Denmark, record world champion France, European champion Sweden, European runner-up Spain, Norway and African champion Egypt had already qualified for the knockout phase. In Sunday’s top Group 1 game in Krakow, France beat Spain 28:26 (13:13) to secure first place ahead of the Iberians. dpa
