AROCHE, a municipality in the Sierra de Huelva, registered the coldest urban temperature in Andalusia this Monday with a freezing cold of -4.8ºC at 8:40 a.m.
The icy temperature in Aroche was only surpassed by the Sierra Nevada station, which registered -10.7ºC at 09:30.
The Huelva town, famous for being one of the coldest towns in Andalusia, was followed by Vélez Blanco-Topares (Almería), which registered -4.3ºC; Viznar (Granada), with -4.2ºC; and Valsequillo (Granada), with -4.1ºC.
Ironically, although the southern region of Spain is a real frying pan in summer, when winter comes, sub-zero temperatures are regularly recorded in some parts of Andalusia.
In fact, according to the latest weather statistics, the coldest town in all of Spain is actually in Granda.
The town of Dilar, nestled at the foot of the Sierra Nevada, regularly sees freezing temperatures of between -9ºC and -12ºC.
