HEAVY snowfall in the north of the UK has caused further travel chaos after a major airport was forced to close both runways on Thursday 19th January.

Due to heavy snowfallManchester Airport said this morning that it has been forced to temporarily close its two runways.

“After a period of heavy snowfall, we have temporarily closed both runways,” an airport news release read.

“Health and safety will always be our top priority and operations will resume as soon as possible.

“Passengers are advised to contact their airline for the most up-to-date flight information.”

People commented on the update on social media.

One person said: “Two slopes and you can’t even keep one open with a light dusting of snow that was also forecast. Sir Gil Thompson would be there leading from the front now. He left a huge airport that just went to the pot!

Another person wrote: “’Heavy snowfall?’ It’s legit, barely a gust, I could shovel it in 15 minutes, but instead it delays every flight, even boarding us on the flight just to delay it even more. Useless airport. 1 cm of snow and everyone stops working”.

While another person wrote: “I don’t think the UK will get rid of how embarrassingly ill-prepared it is for absolutely everything.”
