Because, as the influencer and podcaster proudly announced at the jungle aftershow “The Hour After” in a conversation with drag legend Olivia Jones (53), she can well imagine reporting as a moderator from the set in the Australian jungle. “Is this an app for the jungle camp today?” Olivia wants to know, and Gülcan confidently replies, “Well, if I’m being completely honest, it’s definitely an app, as a moderator. I’m really in the mood for it.”

Is “jungle camp” actually filmed in the jungle?

Since the first episode of the jungle camp hit the screens on January 9, 2004, the station has often been accused of not filming the format in a real jungle. Although on TV it seems that belligerent celebrities are sitting in the shade of palm trees, tens of kilometers from civilization, it is not so extreme. Because “I’m a Celebrity” is filmed on a farm near the town of Murwillumbah, which is located in the Australian region of New South Wales. International versions of the show, such as the UK’s “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!”, also use the site. So it’s not the deepest jungle, but neither is a TV with artificial trees.

“It would be the first”: Gülcan Kamps wants to replace Sonja Zietlow as host of the jungle camp

His interlocutor makes this announcement laugh, but Gülcan Kamps quickly adds: “I am very serious. I am a moderator, I love to moderate and if Sonja says one day: ‘I’m leaving, I don’t feel like it’, I would be the first. “Jungle camp moderation is no easy task and requires a lot of charm, charisma and witty banter, but Gülcan Kamps seems more than ready to take on the challenge. “It’s one of the biggest and best shows in the meantime,” she enthuses, “Sonja has now done 16 wonderful seasons, it’s time to hand over the scepter. But of course she’s free to decide that.”

Gülcan’s dream of a career in a jungle camp has sparked mixed reactions on social media: some RTL viewers like his ambitious project, while others are visibly less enthusiastic about it. “I can well imagine you as the successor to Sonja,” says one Instagram user, “with your quick wit and humor you always made me laugh on Viva.” Another user likes the idea that sonja zietlow could be replaced, but not quite: “Publicly cutting into Sonja’s chair, that’s not cool. Disrespectful. That’s how you shoot yourself. I thought you were smarter.”

In the talk show round, she creates a cheerful mood with her optimistic plan, but the Lübeck native cannot be blamed for setting high goals for herself. After all, Viva’s former colleague of hers, Jan Köppen, also managed to jump in front of the jungle camera. In the jungle flatshare, meanwhile, things get wild, because RTL draws serious consequences after more than 90 rule violations in the jungle camp.
