A gang of Rolex watch thieves who robbed people walking through Oliva in the province of Valencia has been arrested by the Civil Guard.

A man and a woman, both in their 20s, have been arrested and two other people are under investigation.

The criminals traveled through Spain under false identities and rented cars to attack victims who were wearing high-value jewelery and watches.

Operation Ruck was launched by the Guard last July after a 40,000-euro Rolex watch was torn from a woman while she was walking through an urbanization in Oliva.

She, too, sustained considerable injuries during the assault, but was able to provide a good description of her assailant.

At the beginning of November, a Swiss tourist had her €15,000 Rolex stolen in the same development.

The robbers returned a few minutes later to the same area, but an off-duty guard acknowledged that his car was involved in previous robberies.

He called for help but then had to intervene on his own when the man and woman approached an elderly man wearing a €14,000 Rolex watch.

The officer used his car to block any chance for the robbers to escape in their vehicle, before his colleagues arrived to arrest the man and woman.

They were brought before a Gandía court on multiple charges.
