Former Málaga, Chelsea and Newcastle footballer Christian Atsu has been found alive in the rubble after the 7.7-magnitude earthquake in Turkey.

The Ghanaian footballer, who now plays for Hatayspor FC, was missing in the rubble following the catastrophic earthquake that hit the outskirts of Gaziantep, Turkey.

On Sunday Atsu scored the winning goal in the 1990she minute against Kasimpasa in the Turkish Super League.

Atsu is understood to have been admitted to hospital and is being treated for injuries to his right foot and breathing difficulties.

The earthquake, which struck in the early hours of Monday, is the worst to hit Turkey in more than 100 years with a death toll of more than 5,000 in Turkey and Syria.
