ECB director Fabio Panetta calls for more flexibility in monetary policy

frankfurt Fabio Panetta is considered one of the most prominent defenders of a soft monetary policy in the Council European Central Bank (ECB). In the Handelsblatt interview, Italian defenders leave the scope of further interest rate hikes open after the next meeting in early February. The central banker regards as erroneous any unrestricted determination that is not subject to conditions, for example, with respect to economic development.

ECB President cristina lagarde had offered the possibility of further half a percentage point interest rate hikes in December. On Monday, he reiterated that the central bank is targeting further rate hikes.
