A UK charity plans to send 20 runners in a 12-hour relay race up the Rock of Gibraltar for retired military personnel.
Waterloo Uncovered will try to raise money to support military veterans in partnership with Gibraltar businesses and locally based British Armed Forces personnel.
The 20 runners will run from Jew’s Gate to O’Hara’s Battery over the course of October 21, 2023.
Last year’s drag race raised £4,000 for charity
The charity is now hoping to raise even more much-needed cash to help veterans and ex-servicemen build a life for themselves after leaving the Armed Forces.
The Commander of the British Forces has already promised to help in the effort.
Waterloo Uncovered raises funds for ex-servicemen to participate in archaeological expeditions to the famous 19he battlefield of the century.
Top universities support the effort, giving scholars the opportunity to work alongside war veterans.
The experience is part of the charity’s aim to give former members of the British armed forces new hope and direction.
Runs a 12-month program focused on recovery, wellness, transition to civilian life, education, and employment.
Waterloo Uncovered has a team of professional support staff to guide you on this journey.
Every July since 2015, they excavate the site of the famous battle that is now in Belgium.
More than 100 ex-servicemen and ex-servicemen have participated in the program.
British and Prussian forces defeated Napoleon in June 1815 to end his rule over Europe at the Battle of Waterloo.
“Waterloo Uncovered aims to understand war and its impact on people, and to educate the public about it,” the event organizers said.
November’s Rock Run, a traditional favorite of the military in Gibraltar, will help fund the charity’s efforts.
