Chelsea smash British transfer record Enzo Fernandez Benfica

Chelsea have completed the signing of Enzo Fernández from Benfica, breaking the British transfer record in the process.

Chelsea have completed the signing of Argentine defender Enzo Fernández from Benfica. In the process, they have broken the current British transfer record by paying what is believed to be around £115m for the World Cup winner.

According to the All about Argentina Twitter site, the player’s former club in Argentina, River Plate, will receive almost 41 million euros of the transfer fee. His previous record sale was 35 million euros with the transfer of Javier Saviola to Barcelona.

Chelsea have reportedly reached an agreement with Benfica over the signing of their Argentinian defender Enzo Fernandez. The player will undergo a medical in Lisbon today and is now closing a permanent move to the English Premier League, according to thesun.es.

A £115m fee is reported, which will break the current British transfer record paid by Manchester City to Aston Villa for England star Jack Grealish. With the transfer window closing at midnight tonight, it is imperative that Chelsea seal this deal for the 22-year-old.

According to the latest football transfer news online, Chelsea FC agreed tonight, Monday 30th January, terms with Portuguese giants Benfica for Enzo Fernández. signing the World Cup-winning Argentinian winger has allegedly broken the British transfer record, at £115 million, as reported by 90min.com.

Numerous attempts to sign the player this month have failed so far, but if the 22-year-old Fernández has gone to stamford bridge for that fee then dwarfs the £100m Man City paid Aston Villa for Jack Grealish.

Chelsea have been extremely busy during this current transfer window. Transfer director Paul Winstanley and club co-owner Behdad Eghbali are believed to have been instrumental in securing the latest signing. They recently played a significant role in obtaining the signature of Shakhtar Donetsk’s Mykhailo Mudryk.

Benfica manager Rui Costa had stated all along that his player would only leave Lisbon on his terms. Now it would be up to him to approve the deal to complete it.

Fernández reportedly had a £105m release clause in his contract and it is believed that in order for Benfica to accept payment in installments, Todd Boely’s side were willing to pay above the odds.
