Over the weekend, more than 1,000 passengers stood in long lines for passport control at Terminals 1 and 4 of the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport as they tried to make connecting flights, causing disruptions and missed flights.

Javier Gándara, president of the Spanish Airlines Association (ALA) described the scenes at the Madrid-Barajas airport over the weekend as “completely unacceptable.”

Gándara has asked the Ministry of the Interior to take measures to guarantee that “the necessary resources are available in all Spanish airports to deal with the influx of tourists” during the high season.

The lack of police at airports is making it difficult for Britons to catch their connecting flights. Long queues are also made worse by the extra passport checks required since Brexit.
