A prominent British sportscaster has been rushed to hospital after he had difficulty breathing, according to reports on Wednesday, February 1.

British commentator Darren Fletcher, who works for BT Sport, was rushed to hospital after revealing he had been “fighting for breath”.

The 50-year-old commentator revealed on social media that he had suffered anaphylactic shock in the early hours of Wednesday 1 February and had to be rushed to Queen’s Medical Center in Nottingham.

“I had anaphylactic shock in the first few hours which was pretty scary, it was a reaction to something,” he wrote.

“I struggled to breathe and stuff, but the QMC staff have been brilliant.”

He added: “The adrenaline rush was interesting! Hoping to be home later.

“Thank you for the messages, they have encouraged me a lot and many have made me laugh. It is much appreciated x”

Although he is a lead commentator for BT Sport, Fletcher has also worked for the BBC and ITV, where he covers NFL games.

One person wrote on social media: “Glad to hear you’re on the mend and in good hands mate.”

While another questioned what could have caused Fletcher’s anaphylactic shock.

“OMG! What could have happened here then 🤔. Maybe he swallowed a wandering peanut in his sleep. Or maybe a rogue superbee has survived the winter under his duvet,” they said.

The news follows reports from Premier League club Spurs that the team’s head coach Antonio Conte was forced to go to the hospital after suffering severe abdominal pain.

“Antonio Conte recently fell ill with severe abdominal pain,” Tottenham’s official Twitter account wrote on February 1.

“Following a diagnosis of cholecystitis, he will undergo surgery today to remove his gallbladder and will return after a recovery period.”
