BBC chief Richard Sharp calls for his work to be reviewed after reports of his involvement in helping former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson obtain a loan from fixing up a guarantor

BBC President Richard Sharp has called for an inquiry into possible involvement in a case involving helping former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson obtain a loan.

His demand that a scrutiny panel look into conflicts of interest reportedly came after claims that Sharp helped arrange a guarantor to help Johnson for al.loan up to £800,000 (€909,360).

Meanwhile, a statement from Sharp quoted by news from heaven he said that “while the appointment of the chairman is solely a government matter”, he wants to ensure that “all appropriate guidelines have been followed within the BBC since I joined”.

He added: “We have a lot of challenges at the BBC and I know that distractions like this are not welcome.”

The Sunday Times reported on the case of Sharp’s involvement in helping Johnson. The report said that Sharp had helped arrange a guarantor in late 2020.

Following this, it was also claimed that the former Prime Minister, who was in power at the time, recommended Sharp for the role of BBC Chairman.

But a statement issued by Johnson’s spokesman has called the report “garbage.”

The statement added that both parties have also denied any conflict of interest.
