Brakes and tyres overwhelmingly cause most ‘dangerous’ MOT failures

Problems with the brakes and tires are most likely to cause the most serious failures, according to DVSA data analyzed by the RAC.

Non-functioning headlamp, indicator and reflector failures accounted for just over a quarter (25.5%) of all MOT failures in the 12 months to March 2022, while faulty or broken suspensions accounted for just under than one fifth (19.4%) of all failures
