A magnitude 3.1 earthquake The province of Granada has rumbled.

According to the National Geographic Institute (IGN) of Spain, the earthquake, with its epicenter in the town of Santa Cruz del Comercio, was recorded yesterday morning, February 22.

As reported on the IGN website, this latest earthquake was recorded at 4:32 am at a depth of seven kilometers.

The earthquake was felt with intensity III in the municipalities of Alhama de Granada, Cacín, Láchar, Moraleda de Zafayona and Villanueva Mesía and with intensity II in Salar, Cijuela, Huétor Tájar, Jayena and the city of Granada.

Three minutes later, around 4:35 a.m., an aftershock was recorded with an epicenter also in Santa Cruz del Comercio, but of less intensity, 1.9 on the Richter scale.

Initially, no material or personal damages were reported as a consequence of this recently registered earthquake.

Earthquake Magnitude Scale:

2.5 or less: Usually not felt, but can be recorded by a seismograph.

2.5 to 5.4: Often felt, but only deals minor damage.

5.5 to 6.0: Light damage to buildings and other structures.

6.1 to 6.9: Can do a lot of damage in heavily populated areas.

7.0 to 7.9: Major earthquake. Serious damage.

8.0 or greater: Major earthquake. It can totally destroy communities near the epicenter.
