A worker at a residence in the province of Alicante has been accused of fraud after charging more than 6,000 euros on a bank card belonging to a deceased British resident.

The nursing home in a town in the Vega Baja region has not been identified, but the 42-year-old employee was arrested when ordered to visit the Civil Guard in Dolores.

The investigations began in December after the family of the deceased man, in his 90s, began to sort out their financial affairs.

When they contacted his bank, they discovered that a few days after his death, transactions worth more than €6,000 had been carried out.

A legal representative of the family reported the fraud to the Civil Guard.

The officers discovered that the transfers had been made through the man’s bank card and were mainly purchases on an online shopping platform.

A woman of Spanish nationality was quickly identified as the culprit and now faces trial before a court in Orihuela.
