A €7.2 million contract to build a much-needed new health center in Elche will be announced in April.

The Travalon health center will serve 20,000 people and will take the pressure off the existing center in the Altabix district, which covers some 47,000 inhabitants.

Once the contract is awarded, the winning bidder will have 18 months to build the new facility, which could theoretically be ready by the end of next year.

During a visit to the Altabix center on Wednesday, the Valencian Health Minister, Miguel Mínguez, said: “The Travalon center is a response to citizen demand that will improve the quality of health care.”

The new Travalon center will occupy more than 2,200 square meters distributed over three floors.

It will have a wide range of medical and nursing consultations, waiting rooms, as well as special areas for certain units and services, as well as green areas and terraces.

The ground floor will have the main reception, as well as two elevators, one of them for the comfortable transfer of people on stretchers.

The first floor will house family medicine and rehabilitation as well as a pediatric unit.

An Addictive Behaviors unit will also be created that will have direct and independent access from the street.

The minister’s visit to Elche also allowed him to learn about the progress of a new surgical unit that is being built at a cost of 17 million euros in the city’s general hospital.
