TWO vintage watches valued at €5,000 have been recovered in Benidorm after a repairman refused to return them to their owner.

A man has been arrested by the National Police and accused of misappropriation.

The repairman worked in the antiques trade and was said to be fully aware of the value of watches.

One of the watches dates from 1823 and was worth €4,000 and the other was about a hundred years old.

The owner had previously taken them to a specialized shop in Benidorm to have them repaired, but they stopped working.

Last August, the custodian of the watches reached a private agreement of €800 with the repairer to get them working again.

A few months passed without the owner knowing anything and he phoned the craftsman who told him he needed an extra €100.

After that, her phone calls and other communication channels were blocked, and six months after handing over the watches, she filed a complaint with the police.

Agents quickly located the parts in the specialist’s possession to prevent him from selling them on the black market and returned the watches to their rightful owner.
