Unsurprisingly, SAVORY snacks have been widely rejected for harming health in a study conducted by the OCU consumer group in Spain.

It analyzed 202 snacks and classified 80% of them as unhealthy or very unhealthy, including those promoted as less fatty.

While tempting for everyone of all ages, things like nachos, chips, and cones are highly processed with ingredients that can cause health problems if eaten frequently.

“An excess of salt, fat and additives, plus a high caloric intake, are common in 158 of the 202 snacks evaluated,” says the OCU.

Even the remaining 44 products in the study that weren’t fully criticized come with conditions on what they contain and are classified as ‘less harmful’.

Those items earn an A or B on a Nurtiscore rating that looks at the nutritional quality of a snack based on information on the label.

They must also score 80 or higher on the OCU Healthy Scale, which combines nutritional information with additives and flavorings in the product.

The ‘lesser bad’ includes the Mios corn sandwich with smoked salt and black pepper.

Three brands of nachos receive a cautious nod, namely Tortilla Nachips and Tortilla Chips Fajita, both of the Old El Paso brand, as well as Mercadona’s own brand, Hacendado Nachos.
